Looking for ways to make the most of your next NETWORKING event?
5 tips for better networking:
1. Create an action plan. Before the event, make a list of people you’ve met and people you want to meet (assuming there’s a guest list). Review each list and decide on a plan to strengthen your relationships.
2. Ditch the sales pitch. Be authentic, generous, and genuinely curious when meeting others. Having an action plan doesn’t mean you have to “hard pitch” your way through an event. Build trust and rapport first.
3. Show up early. It’s so much easier to find other people who don’t have conversation partners yet.
4. Get creative with your nametag. Add something memorable, funny, or artistic. Draw or bring an emoji sticker, write an “ask me about” below your name, etc)
5. Be strategic about where you stand. Try standing next to the bar or food table. Once they have food or a drink in hand, they will be more relaxed and ready to engage. Also take advantage of standing in line to strike up a conversation with a new person.
